Intuit TurboTax iPhone Calculators

Challenge: Connecting to the broader iPhone market with a useful calculator that would both intrigue and help users. The application had to take what was best about the very successful Taxcaster online calculator and transform it into a functional, easy to use calculator to estimate taxes.

  • Interaction flows were iterated through storyboards.

  • The final visual design was based upon the very successful online version of the Taxcaster Calculator that Tangible UX created a year earlier.

Solution

After creating the very successful Flex based calculator for TurboTax, Tangible conceived an iPhone version. The interactions were translated into interaction conventions and patterns that were appropriate for the iPhone user.

First, we worked through the interaction design concept through wireframes. Once approved we adapted the visual design from Taxcaster to the iPhone application.

Through co-development with the internal Intuit team we achieved approval in the Apple process very quickly.

The app has been incredibly popular and was number one in the iTunes Finance area and on Apple’s Hot list for a significant amount of time.
