Togetherville

Challenge: Tangible UX was brought in to help design the new user customer experience for Togetherville.com, a safe, kid-centric social network built around the parent’s social circle on Facebook. As Togetherville made plans to come out of a private beta, where every user was individually invited, they needed an entry path to explain and sell the product, an easy to understand registration process and a solution for the first time experience for parents who have just signed their kids up to the site.

  • User flows for new user registration and for invitation send and receive were developed. Several use cases existed that needed to be explored and resolved.

  • Wireframes and specs for all pages in the new user flow, from the main site homepage through registration and into the parent experience were developed, refined, prototyped and delivered.

  • Wireframes and specs for all pages in the new user flow, from the main site homepage through registration and into the parent experience were developed, refined, prototyped and delivered.

  • Design explorations looked at both photography and non-photographic variations.

  • Full style guide with color palette, typography, illustration and photography recommendations was delivered with final mocks and interaction specifications.

  • Main message and call to action on the homepage encourages sign up.

  • Final pages from the site. The palette and imagery are fun for kids and adults alike.

Solution

We worked closely with the Togetherville team to understand the product and to design a robust solution that would be flexible as they grow and add features. Working in an agile environment (this is a startup after all) we developed a series of user interaction flows to map out potential engagement paths. We rapidly designed wireframes of key screens and made low fidelity prototypes which we tested with current and potential users. Over the course of a fast three week engagement, we iterated and refined the experience, testing every two days with users, both in person and virtually, until we refined an elegant, simple, easy to use sign up and first time experience.

The design process also fleshed out opportunities for future additions of features for both parents and their kids.

The last phase of the project entailed developing a cohesive, refreshed look and feel for the new pages, which would roll over into the existing kid’s site experience (which we did not design). With an updated, expanded color palette, development of iconography and photographic style, we gave Togetherville a contemporary, fun, look that appeals to both kids and their parents.
